Barrick Chile Generación is a subsidiary of the Canadian mining company Barrick Gold Corp, world leader in the production of gold. The company owns two power generation initiatives: the Punta Colorada Wind Farm and Power Plant, both located in the town of Punta Colorada, La Higuera commune, Coquimbo Region. Both are connected to the Central Interconnected System (SIC). At the Punta Colorada wind farm, the company operates ten wind turbines with a maximum total power of 20 MW (2 MW each). The Punta Colorada power plant operates in the same sector and provides backup electricity to the SIC. The power station works with Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) as fuel and generates 17 MW of power by one RICE Wartsila 18V46C Miller genset.
In 2013 Acromex is awarded with the complete overhaul of their RICE which Acromex is able to complete in only two months. Job consisted of complete engine disassembly, inspection of all engine components and service and/or replacement of damaged parts.
